What is the eDiets Diet Plan?

eDiets Diet Plan Offers Traditional Means To An End

The eDiets diet plan is what you might consider a “traditional” diet. No gimmicks, no special foods, just three low-fat, balanced meals and one to two snacks each day. If you want low-carb, high-protein or five small meals a day, this isn't the plan for you.

But if you want a meal plan that is fairly balanced and flexible and that allows you to exclude foods due to allergies or because you just don't like them, you may have found your diet match.

The eDiets diet plan is based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's food pyramid and on recommendations from the American Heart Association. The recommended menus provide 50 to 65 percent of your daily calories from carbs, 20 to 25 percent from proteins and the newest USDA guidelines from 2005 are 20 to 35 percent calories from healthy fats. Because of its heart-healthy angle, the diet does not allow high-fat foods, including butter, skin on poultry, whole milk dairy products and fatty meats.

Check out this sample daily menu, which features lots of veggies, but no specialty products or supplements.

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with raisins, almonds, yogurt, and other fruit.
  • Lunch: Fresh tomato pizza with salad and fruit.
  • Dinner: Pork kabobs with salad and baked sweet potato.
  • Snack: Low-fat cottage cheese with blueberries.
