Diverticulitis & Sonoma Diet Foods

Diverticulitis is a health condition that occurs when small pouches in the colon (diverticula) become infected or irritated from which fact is understandable why seeds and nuts are not advised for this diagnosis. However, it's not the fibers that makes tomatoes, blueberries, nuts, and the such a "no-no" when one has diverticulitis but the shape and size of the particles after you chow on these foods.

The problem can be solved the two ways: juicing and blending/sifting. If you choose to squeeze these foods for juice, make sure you have not only the clear liquid but also the soft pulp because fiber is good for people with diverticulitis. Another way is to blend, then to pass the food through a mesh sifter, pressing the pulp hard to rub it upon the mesh. This leaves you the most nutritious part or tomatoes and berries without the bad for you tiny hard particles.

Nuts can be processed in a coffee grinder to make flour, then used in baked dishes, desserts, or nut butters.

However, as is true for drinking any alcohol-containing beverage, moderation is key. Drinking one glass a day for women and up to two glasses a day for men may decrease the risk of heart disease, cancer and stroke.

Do the Cabbage Soup or Rosemary Conley Diets Work?

Rosemary Conley's 'Eat Yourself Slim' is a low fat diet and exercise program 'live and online) popular in the UK. The Rosemary Conley magazine claims that losing an inch a week off the waist is not unusual on the plan.

Starting January 2006, Rosemary launched her new 'Gi Jeans Diet' designed so followers can enjoy all their favorite treats including chocolate, crisps and cheese, plus a daily glass of wine. There's no forbidden foods but strict portion control - the trend started by the Sonoma diet in the US.

"This is my latest diet which is an extremely effective weight loss program. The average weight loss was 7.25 lbs. in the first 2 weeks," says Rosemary.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is a low calorie, low fat plan that seems to work if you believe in anecdotal evidence. It is based on the 'low calorie density' principle. Surprisingly enough, our eating behavior, especially the part of it that defines when to stop eating a meal, depends on the volume rather that calorie or nutrient content of this particular meal. Thus, ounce for ounce, the lower calorie density, the fewer calories will be consumed to reach the same level of foulness.
