Indicators of ObesityBMI is only the approximate tool for estimating obesity. Very fit individuals with large amounts of muscle mass may have high BMIs, yet not be obese. A more accurate measure of obesity is the body fat % determined by a skinfold test, in which the thickness of folds of fat at several (7 to 11) places of the body are measured. There are free online calculators of body fat %, which require only a measuring tape. They use the formula estimating the ratio of several circumferences of your body to your weight, height, and gender.
